People from around the world are choosing York Region as their new home. Helping newcomers adjust to Canadian society is very important to us. York Region has many organizations and services here to help.

Please contact any of these agencies for more information, they will be happy to help and to welcome you to York Region.

The Welcome Centre's has a variety of immigration services all in one centre. Services are provided free of charge. The five agencies that you find at the Welcome Centre are:
  • Catholic Community Services of York Region (CCSYR) is a non-profit charitable social services agency that delivers social services to the communities of York Region.
  • Centre for Immigrant & Community Services (CICS) is a registered charity that provides language, settlement, and integration services to newcomers; as well as specialized services to immigrant women, youth, and seniors.
  • Job Skills is a non-profit agency that provides Employment, Newcomer and Business Services and Programs in York Region.
  • Social Enterprise for Canada promotes integration and equity for diverse populations in need through community development and direct human service.

There are several other local organizations available to help you get settled in York Region.

  • The Cross Cultural Community Services Association (TCCSA) provides services to the Greater Toronto Area to help newcomers such as settlement services, education and language training, and community and youth services.
  • Jewish Immigrant Aid Services (JIAS) offers a full range of settlement and integration services for new immigrants.
  • JVS Toronto partners with government and business to provide educational and vocational services.
  • CICS Immigrant Youth Centre - The Immigrant Youth Centre (IYC) is funded by Citizenship and Immigration and Canada and provides programs and services to benefit newcomer youth of York Region.

  • - The new Community Information and Volunteer Centre (CIVC) database provides comprehensive community information for newcomers and newcomer service providers in south York Region. The site was created by the BLISON (Building Local Immigration Support for Ontario Newcomers) project. The database resource provides information on agencies and organizations with services and volunteer opportunities geared toward the newcomer community.
  • PRIME (Parya Resources for Immigrant Media Education) Hey parents! Want to improve your English, overcome feelings of isolation and get connected to your community and the world? Register now for our FREE social media training program on Facebook, LinkedIn, Google and others. Plus, youth can volunteer with us as social media assistants and earn community hours!
  • YLDP (Youth Link Diversity Project)  Hey students! Register now for your FREE Youth Link workshops (starting Mon. Nov 10) to increase your inter-cultural understanding and engage in civic and social activities that help others integrate into Canadian society! Plus earn your community volunteers hours!
  • 211 - a telephone helpline (2-1-1) and website directory of community, social, non-clinical health and related government services available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, in over 100 languages.
  • Association of Chinese Canadian Entrepreneurs (ACCE) have put together a welcome kit with useful information such as banking, transit, education and more. These kits are available at most Welcome Centres in York Region and at the ACCE office in Markham.

  • BLISON Collaboration Forum Site - A new program is being introduced for newcomer support and community information service providers through the BLISON Project, Building Local Immigration Support to Ontario Newcomers. The Collaboration Forum Website provides a medium where service providers can meet online and exchange or gain information from fellow professionals. The BLISON Project is a three-year endeavour sponsored through the Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration aimed at helping newcomer service providers and community information workers better service their newcomer clients.   • Citizenship Counts - A project of Ontario Coalition of Agencies Serving Immigrants (OCASI) and funded by Citizenship and Immigration Canada. We want to empower young people across Canada to take control of their citizenship status by highlighting the benefits of becoming a Canadian citizen, showing you how to apply, and helping you study for the citizenship test.
  • Citizenship and Immigration Canada - Canadian government department that provides immigration and citizenship services
  • Francophone Immigration Portal - Are you a new Francophone to York Region and would like information on supports and services to help with your settlement needs? The Francophone Immigration Website provides settlement information for Francophone newcomers and information on French services that are available.
