Highlights from Cultural and Religious Diversity Dialogues
From April to June 8, 2015, York Region sought input from newcomers, long-time residents, businesses, community organizations, public institutions, faith groups, and others about your perspectives on diversity and inclusion in York Region. Several opportunities for input were available, including in-person sessions in each York Region municipality, an online survey and social media using the hashtag #InclusiveYR. As well, tools were provided for people to host their own session. Highlights from these sessions are summarized in the report below:
Developing a Diversity and Inclusion Charter
This is the first phase in developing a Diversity and Inclusion Charter for York Region. This first phase focused on immigration, cultural and religious diversity. The next phase of consultations will take place in 2016 and will look at other dimensions of diversity such as gender, age, abilities, and sexual orientation. These discussions will help shape the York Region Diversity and Inclusion Charter that will articulate a common vision for, and commitment to, creating an inclusive community.
