Leading Change for a Stronger Community
Celebrating Diversity. Strengthening Communities
York Region is home to nearly 1.2 million residents, representing all ages, backgrounds and interests. As one of Canada’s fastest growing communities welcoming many newcomers each year, York Region’s diversity is a source of our pride and strength.
Immigration enriches our community on many fronts, and is an important contributor to the growth of our robust local economy. Since 2010, the York Region Local Immigration Partnership and the Community Partnership Council have been working to increase awareness of newcomer challenges, and identify opportunities to adapt and improve services to support our newest community members.

2017 to 2021 Newcomer Strategy
The 2017 – 2021 Newcomer Strategy builds on the work already achieved through the original Immigrant Settlement Strategy and moves us forward in developing a welcoming and inclusive home for all. The success of our efforts relies on the strength of collaboration and partnership, where everyone – individuals, communities, businesses and municipalities – plays a role in creating a culture of inclusion.
